Our firearms safety course, designed to fit busy schedules, delivers 16 hours of classroom instruction in four 4-hour evening sessions held on Tuesday & Thursday from 6-10 PM, followed by a 2-hour range day the next week. This format accommodates work and family commitments, ensuring accessible, comprehensive training. Below is a brief description of the topics covered each day.

Day 1: Firearm Safety and Fundamentals
This session establishes the foundation of firearm safety and operation. Topics include general firearm safety, firearm function and operation, ammunition function and operation, safe handling of firearms, cleaning and maintenance, and the effects of alcohol and drugs. Participants will learn essential safety protocols, how firearms and ammunition work, proper maintenance techniques, and the dangers of impaired handling.

Day 2: Holsters, Storage, and Legal Responsibilities
This session focuses on practical and legal aspects of firearm ownership. Topics include how to choose a holster, retention strategies, how to securely store your firearm, New York State gun laws (covering sensitive and restricted locations), and federal gun laws. This session equips participants with the knowledge to select appropriate gear, store firearms safely, and comply with state and federal regulations.

Day 3: Situational Awareness and Decision-Making
This session emphasizes proactive strategies and critical decision-making for armed individuals. Topics include how to handle encounters with law enforcement while armed, situational awareness, conflict management and de-escalation, and the use of deadly force. Participants will learn to navigate law enforcement interactions, stay vigilant, de-escalate conflicts, and understand the legal and ethical implications of using deadly force.

Day 4: Marksmanship, Range Safety, and Suicide Prevention
The final classroom day prepares participants for range activities and addresses mental health. Topics include principles of marksmanship, range safety, safe drawing and re-holstering, safe loading and unloading, acquiring a target, dry firing, safely discharging a firearm, and suicide prevention. Participants will master fundamental shooting techniques, range safety protocols, and learn strategies to promote mental wellness.

Range Day
The range day applies classroom knowledge in a controlled environment. Participants will be prepared to draw from concealment, acquire a target, and safely re-holster; safely load a firearm; pass a range qualification; and make the firearm safe and empty. This hands-on session ensures participants can confidently and safely apply their skills.
We offer two 8-hour instructional sessions, designed for convenience.
These full-day classes take place on Tuesday and Thursday from 8 AM to 4 PM
Range day is scheduled the following week.
